TRANSFORMATION: Messed Up To Vibrant Copper

Zach Kilian (@zachkilian) a senior stylist at Hairroin Salon, Los Angeles, was up for a challenge. "My client came in with an inch of new growth and faded previously level 4 violet midstrands with bleached ends that had been purple," says Killian. "She had done a clarifying treatment a week before coming in for her color service."

Here he shares the details for the transformation:

STEP 1: Apply Wella Blondor and 20 volume to the previously colored midstrands. Isolate in foils. Once target color is close, rinse and apply more Blondor and 20 volume from roots through the midstrands. Process to the desired level. Rinse and shampoo.

STEP 2:
Then apply Wella Color Touch 7/43 and 6 volume on the now lightened new growth. Apply Color Touch 8/43 through the midstrands.  ("I added 9/3 to the 8/43 to put a bit more gold into the midstrands because there was more red in them from the bleaching.") Process for 10 minutes, then pull color through the ends in the last minute to give a touch of depth. ("This gave her a nice even copper base.")

STEP 3: Then apply equal parts Joico Orange and Joico Yellow to get the poppy orange result. Process under heat for 20 minutes and cool for 10.
