Meri Kate O’Connor (@MeriKateO), a colorist at Eva Scrivo in NYC and an educator at the Eva Scrivo Academy, was thrilled to get her hands in the hair of receptionist/model/social media manager Annalisa. “We wanted to take her hair from, pardon the quote, ‘ordinary to extraoridinary’,” says O’Connor. “I wanted the color to represent the season. This was one of the most popular techniques I demonstrated at our Urban Ombre balayage class.” The process took approximately 3 hours and O’Connor would charge a client $350 and up depending on length.

Here O’Connor shares the HOW TO:

Step  1: Ba layage the entire hair with Goldwell Silk Lift from mids to ends, working with ten volume at the back to twenty at the sides (applying quickly) for even processing.

Step 2: lift to a copper gold approximately 20 minutes.

Step 3: Shampoo, condition and dry the hair.

Step 4: Apply Goldwell Porosity Equalizing Spray, ensuring even saturation. Comb through.

Step 5: Mix Pravana Vivids ¾ orange neon and ¼ orange. Balayage the pre-lightened area.

Step 6: Process with medium heat for 20 minutes. Cool for ten. (note: “The longer the hair processes, the longer it stays,” says O’connor.)

Step 7: Rinse and condition.

TIPS FOR MAINTAINING THE COLOR:

-Use tepid water at all times.

-Use color safe shampoo and conditioner.

-Keep heat on low when using hot tools.
