Jon Alexander Frawley (@jonnystylez), a color and balayage specialist at Bangz Salon and Wellness Spa, Montclair, New Jersey, had an exciting opportunity with his client. "I love creating customs colors that are both bold and individual, yet wearable and appropriate for the particular individual," he says. This is exactly what he did for client Marisol who originally came in with level 7 orange hair wanting to go lighter. Frawley took the gradual root, ending up with a light, bright and seamless blonde.

Here he shares the HOW TO:

Original blonde (in the before shot with 4 months re-growth):

Step 1: Apply Wella Blondor lightener with 35 volume (ratio 1:2) to the mid shaft for about 30 minutes (with heat under a Climazone rollerball). Do not rinse.

Step 2: Go back in and apply Blondor with 30 volume on the new growth and ends. Process until the colors match and then rinse completely.

Step 3: Tone with Wella Illumina 8/ with equal parts 10/69 on the roots, and 10/69 on the midshaft and ends. Process for 20 minutes.

4 months later:

Step 4: Begin with Blondor and 35 volume on regrowth, leaving about the last half an inch up to the scalp out. Lift to a gold level 8. Do not rinse.

Step 5: Apply Blondor with 30 volume to the rest of the roots, directly up to the scalp. Process for 20 minutes and rinse.

Step 6: Soap cap the hair with equal parts Blondor Lightener, 20 volume developer and Wella Elements shampoo. Lather and process at the sink for 13 minutes. This will lift the hair to the perfect yellow.

Step 7: Tone with Wella Illumina 9/03 equal parts 10/69 and 9/ with pastel developer for 15 minutes.
