Alisha Jared (@alishajaredhairartistry) from Siren Salon, Vancouver, WA, had an exciting opportunity. "This client called into our salon looking for someone to correct her 10 years of home color," she says. "She had been using a $4 box blonde from Target, but decided to try their new 'platinum' line and ended up with a horrific band of yellow. This was in addition to years worth of banding from previous box lightening sessions that were throughout her hair. She wanted to be as icy white as could be.  I have had great success with these types of color corrections in the past so I was more than excited to take on the challenge."

During the consultation, Jared made sure to be clear on what they could and should expect out of this first service. "I always aim to under promise and over deliver, which I think is exactly what I was able to do for this client. Seeing how much she loved the finished result is the absolute best part of my job!"

Here Jared shares the HOW TO:

Step 1: Apply Formula A:  Joico Cream Lightener + 20 volume Veroxide to any banding. Blend up to 1/4" from scalp.  Begin at the nape and work toward front hairline, taking extra precaution to not overlap any compromised hair.

Step 2: While processing, return to the nape and apply Formula B: Joico Cream Lightener + 30 volume Veroxide to scalp.  Also re-saturate any difficult/missed banding with remaining Formula A.

Step 3: Process at room temperature, under a cap, for approximately 30 minutes (or until level 9/10 pale yellow is achieved).

Step 4:  At shampoo bowl apply Formula C:  Wella Blondor + 10 volume Veroxide + 2 pumps of Joico Moisture Recovery Shampoo to the ends of hair. Work up onto midshaft and finally working onto roots. "I did this mainly to open her cuticle so her toner would take evenly roots to ends, but also to try and rid her ends of the 'buttery yellow' cast they had."

Step 5: Process until hair looks even from roots to ends. Rinse and then shampoo twice in cool water with Pureology Strength Cure Shampoo.

Step 6:  Mix Formula D: 30 g Joico Chrome V9 + 10 g Joico Chrome N9 + 80 g Joico Chrome Activator.  Apply Formula D from roots to ends starting in the nape and working toward the front hairline.

Step 7: Process until it starts to take on an icy/purple/grey cast and is even throughout. Rinse.  Condition with Joico Intense Hydrator and process for 5 minutes.

Step 8:  Apply Davines MOMO Potion as a leave in conditioner and style with Kenra Blow Dry Spray.

"All over lightening sessions have become one of my favorite things to do," says Jared. "It just takes a lot of patience, caution, and good communication between the client and the stylist."
