COLOR CORRECTION: Box Ombre Fail to Totally FAB!

Katlin Starks (@hairbykatlin), a Master Designer Stylist at Regis Salon in Albuquerque, NM., had quite the challenge. "This client had not colored her hair in a year," says Startks. "She had new growth, plus red box color covered with a medium brown."

There was A LOT going on, but Starks did not run.

Here she shares the HOW TO:

Step 1: Match her base color, 5WN. Cover her blonde with Matrix ColorSync 6WN+5WN. Process for 30 minutes, (ColorSync will darken one level after 15 minutes). Rinse and dry.

Step 2: Mix lightener: Matrix V-Light with 20 volume developer for upper portion of her hair and 10 volume developer for bottom portion of her hair where her blonde was previously to avoid any damage.

Step 3: Balayage to offer a good amount of blonde coverage, keeping dimension towards the ends.

Step 4: Process, lifting roots to a level 9 gold, mid section where previous color was to a level 7 orange, and ends to a level 12.

Step 5: Tone with Matrix ColorSync 6N + a pinch of 6A, mid section with 6A+8A. Process for 5 minutes to even out tones, then apply root formula to ends to deepen.

Step 6: Rinse and then tone her again at the bowl with 7N+7P+7V. Rinse and shampoo.

(Please note: This is the same client in the before and after. In the "after" shot the client is not looking in a mirror...that is a picture on the wall of the salon.)
