Yoshi Su, The 2014 Australian Hair Fashion Awards Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year and Style Director at Rokk Ebony in Melbourne, Australia, presents the hair collection, 1:1.618, also known as the golden ratio.

"This collection is a reflection of how we enslave ourselves by being so obsessed with beauty and trying to be perfect," says Su. "I took a few different elements as my inspiration, from different cultures to fairy tales and objects in our life."

He used the cape of the evil queen in Snow White to represent jealousy of others' beauty and a saddle to show how people can be slaves to beauty.

Su was inspired to create exaggerated height in the hair and emphasize elongated necks to mimic trends in African and Chinese cultures, particularly groups that change their body shape to be more physically attractive to others. Similarly, the wing-like hairstyle is inspired by an ancient Egyptian pharaoh's mask.

The hair that appears to form hands that grasp the head are considered by Su to be the basis of his theme. He points out that hairstyles are changed to mold the way we look and the way others perceive us. In the same vein, Su designed one hairstyle to look like a high heeled shoe, commenting on the lengths people will go to for fashion and beauty.
