“Wet the hair with Oribe Foundation Mist, then apply Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse to the roots. Blowdry for natural, smooth and clean hair. Then spray Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray on the hair section by section. Use a curling iron to curl each section by creating a figureeight around the iron rod. Finally, finish the look with Dry Texturizing Spray.” —Oribe Stylist Ramona Eschbach

“A mix of Kevin.Murphy Anti.Gravity and Hair.Resort was applied to models’ wet hair before blowdrying, adding volume and texture. Models were given long extensions; the hair was then bent slightly using hot tools. Easy.Rider, an anti-frizz crème, was applied throughout the ends for flexible hold. The entire look was finished off with Session.Spray misted lightly all over the head.” —Kevin.Murphy Lead Stylist Maranda

“First we used Cutler Specialist Volumizing Spray and gave the hair a nice, quality blowdry. Next we tonged all the hair with a 2-inch tong and then deconstructed it using Redken Fashion Waves Texturizing Sea Spray. It’s about twisting the hair and massaging it in so you get that matte, ’70s feel to it and you see all those little personalized touches.” —Stylist Tamara McNaughton for Cutler/Redken Salon

Natural textured waves and 1970s-inspired center parts made a huge comeback at New York Fashion Week fall 2015.

New York Fashion Week fall/winter 2015 runways were rampant with 1970s-inspired looks. Sequin gowns, chunky tweed jackets and graphic accessories were complemented by ’70s hairstyles with modern finishes. The retro vibe manifested in bold center parts, great lengths, and natural movement and texture.

At the Joie show, lead hairstylist Maranda created a long, voluminous effect by applying extensions, then bending hair slightly using hot tools and building volume with products by Kevin.Murphy. “We went for an Ossie Clark London moment, with long, cool textured hair, all parted down the middle,” Maranda says.

Tamara McNaughton for Cutler/Redken Salon took a more undone approach to the look. “The Frame Denim girl has a relaxed attitude and bohemian sensibility,” McNaughton says.

At Karen Walker, Bumble and bumble stylist Jordan M. found inspiration from the BBC series Sapphire & Steele that aired in the late ’70s. Models emulated the cool girl of the hippie era with center and natural side parts, airy curls and a glamorous, high-polish finish.

Oribe stylists tapped into the retro mood with similar looks at multiple shows. To complement Kempner’s ’70s-inspired collection, Ramona Eschbach created soft, natural waves that went perfectly with the models’ Studio 54-ready ensembles.
