New Shears, New Stylist As a beginning stylist--I'm very attached to the tools and appliances I use on a daily basis on the salon floor. So when I received a new pair of shears from Fromm International--I was really nervous, excited too, of course, but still nervous to try them out. Will my hair cuts still look ok? Will I be able to slide-cut and slice like I usually do? What if it's different!?

It's kind of like going through Driver's Ed--you get so used to driving a certain vehicle that, when it comes time to drive your parent's car, it's an entirely different experience. That's how I felt about my shears. Alas, I want to be a stylist capable of cutting with any shear! And these shears were so beautiful and shiny and new, I couldn't wait to try them out.

New Shears, New Stylist
Wednesday night my school had a Cut-a-Thon--where all proceeds went to helping the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Pivot Point was on TV publicizing the event and we had been promoting it for weeks. Students decorated the salon with green ribbons of support and had a big bake sale and cotton candy (of course I volunteered to make the cotton candy, my fav!). It drew a lot of attention and the salon was packed with first-time clients!

I ended up getting a client, 9-yr-old Logan, who was SO cute! Not only was she incredibly smart and chatty for a 9-yr-old girl, BUT she wanted me to cut off 12-inches of hair to donate to Locks of Love. How exciting! I'm used to doing trims and adding little differences--nothing dramatic like this! My educator, the fabulous Ms. Marie, came over and helped me give Logan a low nape ponytail--I was SO excited to test out my new shears. Logan has THICK, beautiful, shiny hair and I was a little concerned that shears wouldn't be able to hack it. My new Fromm shears sliced that pony right off! No problem! ]New Shears, New Stylist

The shears, Elite no. 90 (5 1/2"), are hollow-ground, hand-honed and with beveled blades. The handles are long and ergonomically offset. LOVE!

When we were done cutting off the ponytail, Logan said she wanted me to just clean up the line and give her some side-swept bangs. The shears remained super sharp for the rest of the cut and Logan left the salon thrilled with her new 'do! Bree did Logan's sister's hair and Dominique did their mother's hair. The three of them looked so cute with their new hair cuts! AND, we each got a $5 tip : ) Check out frommonline.com for more info on the brand's exclusive Smart Steel shears.
